National Fair Housing Month is observed every April to commemorate the passage of the landmark Fair Housing Act, signed into law on April 11, 1968. It serves to renew commitments to ending housing discrimination based on race, color, national origin, religion, sex, disability, and familial status.
This landmark legislation is important today for the same reason it was fifty-seven years ago—it honors the principle that in the United States of America, no one should be denied housing because of who they are. Fair Housing Month is a time to renew our commitment to expanding homeownership opportunities and fostering inclusive communities. Thank you for joining us in advancing fair housing.
